Oh, and by the way, this isn't real

Just a Karate Kid fan out there having a little fun dreaming.

Although why you would dream about Jaden Smith being in another Karate Kid movie is beyond me, the kid seems to be out there in la-la-land. On the other hand it would be cool if he were to use martial arts to get his life back together, but don't count on it.

Celebrating the Karate Kid's 40th anniversary

Today is the 40th anniversary of the release of the original Karate Kid.

What better way to celebrate than to listen to Bill Conti's "Training Hard".

Jean Claude Van Damme at the All Valley Tournament

It's a small martial arts world. Check out Jean Claude Van Damme as an extra in the original Karate Kid at the All Valley Tournament. (seated on the floor in the black gi during one of Bobby's fights)

It makes sense seeing as Jean Claude came to Hollywood in 1982 from Belgium in search of movie stardom and the Karate Kid was filmed in late 1983. He was probably dialed-in to the local LA martial arts community and heard they needed extras for the tournament scene.

He was most likely hoping to get a fighting scene and I can easily imagine him approaching director Avildsen about it but upon seeing the kid's skill Avildsen probably didn't want anyone showing up Macchio and Zabka. (although Vidal actually did that anyway)

Still, Jean Claude in the Karate Kid. Epic!

Pat Morita on an episode of the Fresh Prince

Kind of surreal, Pat Morita (here playing a character by the name of "Mr. Yoshi") appearing as a karate teacher on a TV show whose main character would one day have a son who years later would star in a remake of the Karate Kid.

Check Out an Exclusive First Look at The Karate Kid Picture Book

(by Frannie Jackson pastemagazine.com 12-4-18)

The Karate Kid is getting the picture book treatment in time for its 25th anniversary, and the crane kick has never looked cuter.

The newest installment in Quirk Books’ Pop Classics series features charming illustrations from Kim Smith and revisits The Karate Kid’s iconic moments. Perfect for fans of all ages, the book tells the family-friendly story of “the unlikely friendship between a bullied boy and his karate teacher.” Here’s the scoop on the plot from the publisher:

Young Daniel moves to a new town and becomes the target of bullies from the local karate dojo Cobra Kai. Hoping to win the upcoming karate tournament, Daniel begs his neighbor Mr. Miyagi to help him train. Mr. Miyagi reluctantly agrees. But he becomes more than just Daniel’s sensei by teaching him lessons about patience, balance and hard work along the way.

“In this picture book,” Smith tells Paste, “we were hoping to show the bullying that takes place in the movie in more subtle ways by expressing it through body language. These sketches were an exploration of this. By utilizing perspective and high angles, I wanted Daniel to feel small and the Cobra Kai kids to feel imposing and menacing.”

Smith adds, “Karate Kid is a wonderful story that kids of all ages can relate to, and hopefully the picture book will inspire them to become fans of the movie.”

Justice for Johnny

(I saw this today on the Cobra Kai Facebook page, some of the comments are pretty funny.)

Paul Caulfield - John Kreese does not tolerate losses via illegal kicks to the head in his dojo and effectively shunned Johnny after. Johnny was unable to secure further instruction in Karate due to his reputation, leading to a downward spiral into drugs and homelessness which would never have happened had he been recognised as the true all valley champion. Johnny's dignity, self respect and hope for the future was put in a body bag that day.

Wayne Michael Zahra - Not only johnny was kicked in the face the tournament is for brown belts and above . Some poor guy trained his ass off to make it to the tournament only to have his belt stolen from a bag .

Let me guess Daniela is the victim once again . Daniela is a cheat !

Adam McCartney - True. However, perhaps the judges decided to look the other way on the Crane Technique after seeing all the dirty tricks and bad sportsmanship demonstrated by ALL of the Cobra Kai during the tournament.

Ian Corcoran - Leave now.

Abner Berrios - Larusso cheated. Mr. Miyagi stole a belt and he give false information in the application he said he have a Miyagi dojo he does't have a karate school Larusso can't be a black belt.

The facts prove Larusso is a cheater, the tournament organization must do a review of documents and present charge against them for fraud.

That's a federal crime.

Adam McCartney - It's way beyond of the statute of limitations now. Too late to file charges.

King Karate

I'm surprised that more hasn't been made of this comment about Johnny by Daniel.

"King Karate".

I've never seen any fan art come from this, or any comments at all really.

If Hollywood needs a movie ideas, I think a Karate Kid prequel is in order. They could call it King Karate and it would follow Johnny Lawrence in his early years, how he started taking classes at the Cobra Kai dojo, how his relationship started with Ali, etc.

It would be a blockbuster I think.
