Know one style

(from the Facebook page Treasure Land)

In an age where everyone is chasing ten things at once, true Budo teaches the opposite.

The young student always believes that collecting more styles will make him complete, but the old master knows that depth defeats breadth. To know one style deeply is to understand timing, distance, breathing, and spirit so intimately that any attack, from any art, becomes readable. Mixing without mastery only creates confusion — you become a collector of techniques but a master of none. Funakoshi, Kano, and Ueshiba all taught the same: stay on one path long enough to dig one deep well, and you will find water, while those who dig ten shallow holes stay thirsty forever.

When you truly live one kata, one punch, one principle for thousands of repetitions, it stops being a technique and becomes a part of you. Then you don't need many styles, because that one style will answer everything.
